Neighbors for Sustainability and Local Solutions to Global Warming
Resources and Solutions are Here in Lower Merion
LET'S MOVE TOWARD A CLEANER, GREENER FUTURE!
Locally and globally, we are experiencing environmental, weather, health and habitat disasters - all are linked to rapid global warming caused by enormous use of fossil fuels. With our resources and strong community as the foundation, Lower Merion can be part of the solution. CALM is committed to supporting our residents and community to make the transition to a sustainable future. Join us!
Sustainability and clean energy is the future we are championing. There is hope. You can get on a path to a more sustainable life, and work in changes over time. Take steps in your life and in our community. We are hosting monthly Neighbor-to-Neighbor Zoom Climate Conversations on Thursdays at 7:00 to engage Lower Merion residents on key clean energy transition and sustainability topics in our community. See upcoming N2N programs, along with recordings of past ones, on the Calendars page.
This site is a resource for Lower Merion residents like you, to help you learn about what you can do to reduce your impact on global warming, both as individuals, as well as part of our community. In the Local Context page we provide information and resources for you to learn about what's happening in Lower Merion, our region and the state. The Individual Action page provides a wealth of information for both those just beginning to learn how to live more sustainably and those seeking to take bigger steps. We focus on the realities of our local built environment here in Lower Merion, and local organizations rather than the national or international scene. There's a lot to process, so go at your own pace! The News page highlights a few important local issues that are currently under discussion in the Township, County or Commonwealth. The Health & Justice page addresses the many areas in which tackling climate change will improve our lives, our health, and our economy both here in SE PA as well as for our neighbors around the world.
Our group is a resource too! The Get Involved! page fills you in on our group's planned events and meetings. There's a lot more going on in the region so the Calendars page connects to several calendars curated by other groups with information on what is happening in SE PA. Details regarding the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Zoom Climate Conversations mentioned above can be found on this page too. Finally, in the Resources page, we have identified and provided links to many regional and national clean energy and environmental groups you may wish to explore for specific area of interest.
The United Nations warns that we have 10 more years to avoid irreparable damage to our climate. (While not all the work has to be done by 2030, we MUST make significant improvements by then.)
Most Americans want the federal government to reduce greenhouse gases and take action on climate change. Too many of us feel helpless watching our federal government ignore this massive crisis.
The good news is that we don’t need to wait for the federal government. We can help to mitigate climate change by working together locally. Transition to clean energy is viable, affordable, and good for the economy. The technology is here now. (See 2035report.com and Generation 180.)
Disclaimer
This is a grassroots, volunteer effort, not organized for profit. Our goal here is to help you, and others in our Township, get started on a path to mitigating climate change, and living more sustainability. Or perhaps we can help you get started again after you have been stuck for some reason. We cannot possibly provide everything here, nor keep this site constantly up-to-date, but we'll do what we can. We welcome further ideas and involvement from members of our community. Contact us if you have suggestions or wish to help! Your involvement at whatever level can make a difference.
“We are the last generation that can prevent irreparable damage to our planet.”
